| Basis of preparing the financial statements |
| Turnover |
| Turnover represents the value, net value added tax and discounts, of goods provided to customers and work |
| carried out in respect of services to customers. |
| Tangible fixed assets |
| Depreciation is provided at the following annual rates in order to write off each asset over its estimated useful |
| life. |
| Freehold land & property - see note below |
| Plant and machinery - 25% on reducing balance basis |
| Computer equipment - 33.33% on straight line basis |
| Motor vehicles - 25% reducing balance |
| Depreciation is provided on freehold property land and property where material over the economic life of the |
| building. |
| Stocks |
| Land stock represents the cost value of the burial grounds, the chapel and the associated buildings. Land stock |
| has been divided per plot and will be realised in the profit and loss account upon the sale of a plot. |
| Research and development |
| Expenditure on research and development is written off in the year in which it is incurred. |
| Hire purchase and leasing commitments |
| Assets held under finance leases and hire purchase contracts, which are those where substantially all the risks |
| and rewards of ownership of the asset have passed to the company, are capitalised in the balance sheet and |
| depreciated over their useful lives. The corresponding lease or hire purchase obligation is treated in the balance |
| sheet as a liability. |
| The interest element of the rental obligations is charged to the profit and loss account over the period of the |
| lease and represents a constant proportion of the balance of capital repayments outstanding. |
| Rentals paid under operating leases are charged to income on a straight line basis over the lease term. |
