The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the year ended 31 December 2016. |
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITY |
The principal activity of the company in the year under review was that of operating a trade and professional association |
for the United Kingdom pig industry. |
REVIEW OF BUSINESS |
The National Pig Association (NPA) was incorporated on 11 October 1999. |
NPA is active on members' behalf in Brussels and Whitehall, and with a variety of government agencies and AHDB |
fighting for the growth and prosperity of our national pig industry. NPA has a network of producer groups, and an allied |
industry group, all contributing to national pig policy building. Regional groups are the ears, eyes and voice of the NPA, |
active on a wide range of fronts from political lobbying to hands-on market promotion. The NPA maintains a website |
which provides a forum for all NPA members. |

The directors acknowledge their responsibilities for: |

Subscription income |
Subscription income received is allocated as income to the year to which the subscriptions relate. There is no |
provision made for subscriptions unpaid at the year end. |

Nfu pension scheme |
The company makes pension contributions to the National Farmers' Union Pension Scheme (the scheme) on |
behalf of its employees. The scheme is a defined benefit scheme. As the company is unable to determine its share |
of the underlying assets and liabilities of the scheme, it accounts for the scheme as if it were a defined |
contribution scheme. Contributions to the scheme are therefore charged to the profit and loss account when |
incurred. |

4. | SHARE CAPITAL |
As the company is limited by guarantee, there is no share capital. In the event of a winding up each member |
would be required to contribute an amount not exceeding £1 in addition to any sum due and payable under the |
Articles of Association. |
Under paragraph 6 of the Memorandum of Association, the income and property of the company shall be applied |
solely towards the carrying out and exercising of the objects and powers of the company. No part shall be |
distributed amongst the members of the company and in a winding up any assets available for distribution shall |
be transferred to the National Farmers' Union. |

8. | MEMBERS FIGHTING FUND |
Included in Other Creditors is an amount of £5,780 (2015 £5,780) for the Members Fighting Fund; this fund is |
administered by the NPA and it has been incorporated within the accounts. No contributions nor disbursements |
were made to the fund in the year (2015 - £nil). This fund is maintained in order to accept donations towards |
the cost of campaigning on behalf of the pig industry. |

9. | RURAL STRESS ACCOUNT |
Included in Other Creditors is an amount of £1,048 (2015 £1,048) for the Rural Stress Fund; this fund is |
administered by the NPA and it has been incorporated within the accounts. |
10. | FIRST YEAR ADOPTION |
There are no matters to report following the company's transition from UK GAAP to FRS 102. No accounting |
restatements were undertaken and hence no requirement to prepare a reconciliation statement of the company's |
equity or profit or loss from the previous year. |
