NOTES TO THE ABBREVIATED ACCOUNTS
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 SEPTEMBER 2016

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Accounting convention
The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention and in accordance with the
Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities (effective January 2015).

Turnover
Turnover represents net invoiced oil drilling consultancy services, equipment rentals and property rentals.

Tangible fixed assets and investment properties
Depreciation is provided at the following annual rates in order to write off each asset over its estimated useful life.

Property - 2% on cost
Leasehold improvements - 10% on cost
Plant, machinery and equipment - 10% on reducing balance
Fixtures and fittings - 10% on reducing balance
Motor vehicles and heavy plant - 25% on reducing balance
Office equipment - 10% on reducing balance

Investment properties are reviewed on an annual basis and revalued, where appropriate, so that they are shown
on the balance sheet at their open market value. The valuations are carried out by the company directors. In
accordance with Statement of Accounting Practice Number 19, depreciation is only provided in respect of a
permanent fall in value of the company's investment properties. These properties are held for their investment
potential and the directors consider that the adoption of this policy is necessary in order to give a true and fair
view.

Stocks
Stocks and work in progress are valued at the lower of cost and net realisable value, after making due allowance
for obsolete and slow moving items.

Cost includes all direct expenditure and an appropriate proportion of fixed and variable overheads.

Deferred tax
Deferred tax is recognised in respect of all timing differences that have originated but not reversed at the balance
sheet date.

Hire purchase and leasing commitments
Rentals paid under operating leases are charged to the profit and loss account on a straight line basis over the
period of the lease.

Pension costs and other post-retirement benefits
The company operates a defined contribution pension scheme. Contributions payable to the company's pension
scheme are charged to the profit and loss account in the period to which they relate.
