Company activities and impact

The company runs a social evening on a Tuesday at Waggies, Edenthorpe, Doncaster. Our social evening provides a safe space for support workers to accompany their customers to make new friends. To engage with friends, laugh, dance, sing karaoke, play games and enjoy the social advantages that other people do without a disability. Families are attending so they can see the interactions between their family members and that of their friends. It allows carers to make friends and share experiences in a social setting, knowing that their families are comfortable and engaging withbfriends In a safe space. We produced a nativity play which families and carers really enjoyed watching and the confidence of our members has improved a lot. We did a valentine themed buffet, themed games and quiz. The same for easter, Halloween and Christmas. We also paid for an ice cream van to provide cones to all members with surplus money we made. Everyone has a Christmas present and birthdays are celebrated with cards and cakes using surplus monies. The event is now full and we have a regular group of people who have grown in confidence amd look forward to coming each week. Parents amd carers have shared that they think the social evening was needed in Doncaster and the thing they like most is that families can join in amd have a night out too. Although the focus is always on the members, the families are extremely happy, knowing this is a safe space and we are more like a family now. We have been asked to expand amd provide further activities because there is a real need in Doncaster, and we have gained trust amd respect from a large group of people who rely on us and enjoy what we do.
