Company activities and impact

Nature Youth Connection and Education CIC (NYCE) in its first year (2020-21) engaged more than 100 young people in outdoor activities and skills training in the city and further afield. These activities included green woodworking, pizza making, craft workshops, walks and games. This was done under the difficult cirmustances of Covid restrictions. The activities allowed over 60 families respite and provided much needed physical engagement for the young people. 18 young people went on a trip to the Brecon Beacons for 5 days of adventure sport, environmental education and mentoring. This was the first time in the Welsh countryside for 13 of these young people.Almost 100 percent of the young people NYCE directly engaged with lived in or attended school in Bristol neighbourhoods in the 20% most deprived parts of the country.

Consultation with stakeholders

The CIC's main stakeholders are the young people and their families. The young people have been asked to provide feedback through short interviews and feedback forms after most activities. These have informed the nature of future engagement. Prior to the big trip to Wales the young people who would be attending were canvassed for opinions on how the trip could have the most impact in their lives. These responses were collected and formed the core of the activities and initiatives delivered to the young people.Parents of young people were asked to provide opinions through phone calls on what kind of initiatives NYCE CIC could provide to improve their access to the outdoors and opportunities for urban respite. These opinions fed into the FairBnB scheme which was begun in the following year.
