    Basis of measurement and preparation

Company activities and impact

Our campaigning work benefits our community of parents and Professionals by- Raising awareness of birth trauma- Birth trauma has only been recognised in research since the two thousands and was only added to NICE guidance as a possible traumatic event in two thousand and fourteen - And yet up to forty percent of women and birthing people in the UK feel in some way traumatised by their birth- Research also suggested that sixty seven percent of midwives are suffering from work related burnout UK WHELM StudyInfluencing change at policy government and NHS leadership levels so that we can drive lasting change around improved resources and services for maternity and postnatal careBreaking taboos and stigma around mental and physical birth trauma by illustrating the devastating impact trauma can have on peoples daily life and relationshipsOur support work benefits our community of parents and professionals by helping them to- Validating their difficulties - Articulate their experiences- Feel less alone less like a failure and less critical towards themselves- Feel more connected with others in their situation- Reframe the bond they have with their child- Acknowledge partners experiences and suffering- Find options for assessment diagnosis treatment and healing- Providing hope that birth trauma treatableWe know from the testimonies of our supporters that the support we provide is invaluable, without it most would not have found the validation and support they needed to address their traumaAshleigh Watkins a psychology masters student completed her dissertation on the efficacy of our support resources and found that they were a significant help to parents affected by birth traumaOur training programmes benefits our community of parents and professionals byProviding a unique service to enhance knowledge of birth trauma and provide tools to improve practice within maternity services and other organisations that support TrustsOutside of our work birth trauma specific training is rarely providedOur research shows that seventy three percent of birth professionals have never had any specific training on birth traumaOur aim is to significantly change that statisticIn our evaluation we measure- Confidence in supporting those affected by birth trauma- Level of skill in supporting those affected by birth trauma- Level of knowledge about how to treat birth trauma- Level of knowledge about to recognise the signs of birth trauma- Level of knowledge about how to prevent birth traumaOur analysis from two thousand and twenty two trainees showed a very significant positive change across all of these measures after our training sessionsFor example Before training only thirty seven percent of participants felt knowledgeable or very knowledgeable about the signs of birth trauma after the training this increased to ninety percent
