COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT
IMAYLA C.I.C.
Company Number: 04252338 (England and Wales)
Year Ending: 31 March 2023
Imayla has delivered another year of creative arts and outdoor events and opportunities for children, young people and families within communities and across Bristol. We have continued to work with partners and communities to provide positive responses through this period of longer term recovery from the covid days, and to manage the day to day impact of the cost of living crisis. We have responded to the needs for a distinct Business and Development role, to improve the infrastucture of the organisation and for a change of leadership following the resignation of the current Operations Director. Sylvia Vincent, Event & Engagement Coordinator was appointed to the role of Operations Director and Zoe Truong to the Business & Development Director role. Further staff appointments will be made in 2023/24 to consolidate the new team.We have made applications and have successfully managed a wide range of funding sources to enable us to continue with Imayla’s delivery offers and in keeping with our Aims & Objectives. Examples of 2022/23 activity:- Wesport ‘Tackling Inequalities Fund’ to support intergenerational participation in sport and physical activity in green spaces in all the areas we work in across the city.- Bristol City Council Youth Sector Support Fund and Thresholds Fund brought together to deliver the 10th year and 15th cohort of our targeted year long ‘Wildly Different’ Programme.- Holiday Activity Fund (HAF) and Bristol Youth & Community Action (BYCA): food, enriching activities and family support delivered through school holidays and half terms in all areas we work in across the city.- National Environmental Research Fund with Bath Spa University - Hear Water, a 6 month programme developing environmental awareness and empathy through water based activities in East and Central areas of Bristol.- Northwick Trust / CAMHS/ Avon Wildlife Trust - Families in the Wild, two retreats at Folly Farm with the Riverside Unit and a residential with local families in Ashley.- The National Lottery – Playful Bristol Sustainable Play Project: Progression workers discovering and developing play and family support for children and families 8-12 years within their postcodes and further afield across the city. This funding is secured for a further 3 years following successful continuation funding bid, lead by Learning Partnership West. Notably this also brings additional resources into all these areas significantly including the HAF/ BYCA schemes.- Community contact has also been maintained across the city with our ‘Doorstep Engagement’ family support project. This is engagement through delivering food, giving opportunities for signposting to resources, 1-1 support, guidance and information on doorsteps and online. Our community office and activity space in St Pauls, shared with Talo, an organisation supporting the Somali community, is proving an ideal setting for a range of activities for both local residents and visiting families from other areas of Bristol. It includes cooking facilities and a small garden. The location also has immediate access to a wider outdoor green play space and with two urban parks nearby. We’ve continued to use the outdoors and the arts as well evidenced and effective methods of delivery. We have maintained our focus on supporting CYP and families whose lives are negatively impacted by trauma, economic disadvantage and race inequality. We look to respond to, and impact on, confidence, resilience, stability, well-being, equality and accessibility.Key to achieving this is listening and responding to Children and Young People (CYP), families and communities and delivering targeted and community work in innovative ways. We always want to hear, understand and meet requests and needs for services. Some we can meet, others we gather and pass on to partners. We have participated strategically and practically in VCS and statutory networks across the city to create improved cohesion of services, most specifically as part of the Bristol Youth and Play Alliance, the Inner City Alliance and Youth and Communities First. The Board of Directors met regularly, we’ve maintained a positive range of experience, diversity and representation on the Board. We’re pleased to welcome Ed Stannard as our new Treasurer.Big thanks and appreciation go to all the funders, support organisations, colleagues and partners and to Imayla’s core team, sessional workers and volunteers. All have responded effectively, creatively and with skill and warmth to the challenges and opportunities of the year. Through all this Imayla has been able to continue to provide support to children, young people and families based in the outdoors and creative arts througout another year.
Key stakeholders this year have been: Children and Young People (CYP), parents and adoptive/foster/kinship carers, Bristol City Council CYP Services – Education, Families In Focus, Social Care, Avon & Somerset Police, CAMHS Riverside Unit, Wesport, Babbasa, Docklands/ Full Circle Project, Creative Youth Network, Learning Partnership West, Adventure Playgrounds, APE Project, Bristol Refugee Festival, Heroes (Refugee & Asylum Seeker Support Group), BYCA, Tribe of Doris, Children's Kitchen, Coexist Community Kitchen, Avon Wildlife Trust, St Werburghs City Farm, Bristol Aquarium, M-Shed, Bristol Ferries, SS Great Britain, Avon Wildlife Trust - Grow Wilder and Folly Farm, Family Arts Campaign, YHA, Scrapstore, Circomedia, Travelling Light, Bristol Old Vic, Tobacco Factory, Talo and My Future My Choice, Bath Spa University, WECIL.These relationships and consultations alongside programme evaluation findings continue to influence Imayla's direction.
