Report of the Trustees |
For The Year Ended 28 February 2023 |
The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 28 February 2023. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019). |
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES |
The Charity's objectives are to give the disabled persons and carers of all ages an opportunity to turn their sporting and recreational dreams into reality. The charity continues to fund all Sporting Chances, where possible the charity utilises the board resources to obtain gifts in kind to ensure that the funds go further. |
ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE |
The charity's performance has rebounded somewhat from the difficult times of the pandemic and there has been progress on the creation and delivery of sporting chances. Fundraising has continued with one significant donation received in the period from the Super Skills event held by the Mike Tindall Charity challenge. |
During the period four Sporting Chances were delivered: |
The charity organised a trip for a family of six including their young son James Goodwin, who is wheelchair bound and suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy, to travel to Euro Disney Paris. Wetwheels (Jersey) offers a unique opportunity for disabled and disadvantaged people of all ages, including those with multiple, profound and complex impairments, to access the water. The charity funded a boat day trip for people from the Les Amis charity on the island. The charity has funded a physiotherapy programme at a hospital for two young people in Ghana, Frank and Olivia whose family were unable to afford the treatment. The treatment and the funds are to be managed by Deborah Eleazar via the St Nicholas School charity in Ghana.A Christmas trip was funded for the Rock Foundation to take ninety young people and adults with learning disabilities and those who are disadvantaged to the Leeds Theatre for a showing of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. |
FINANCIAL REVIEW |
Income received in the year amounted to £25,083 (2022 - £53,811). |
Total expenditure amounted to £19,062 (2022 - £11,501). As is standard practice for the Charity, we minimised the actual expenditure on Sporting Chances and fundraising events, trying to get deals on hotels, hospitality, transport and where possible, gifts in kind. |
Unrestricted cash reserves of £62,710 (2022 - £56,689) available at 28th February 2023 will allow our Sporting Chance plans for the next Financial Year and beyond to be planned and implemented. |
FUTURE PLANS |
As with all organisations in this sector the coming year will continue to fundraise to ensure the opportunity to create sporting chances going forward can be achieved. With the additional funds received in this year the focus will be on providing Sporting Chances and nominations are currently being sought. |
There are several current sporting chances in planning and delivery including the Open Gold at Liverpool and a Florida holiday for a stroke victim from the north east. The charity continues to be proactive in seeking out and encouraging nominations for Sporting Chances. |

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of |
Give Them A Sporting Chance |
I report on the accounts for the year ended 28 February 2023 set out on pages four to nine. |
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner |
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The charity's trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1)(a) to (c) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under Section 44(1)(c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. |
Basis of the independent examiner's report |
My examination was carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts. |
Independent examiner's statement |
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention : |
(1) | which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements |
- | to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1)(a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations; and |
- | to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with Regulation 8 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations |
have not been met; or |
(2) | to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached. |
