Company activities and impact

Bright Sparks Theatre Arts Company are a theatre company that works with the Learning Disabled Community in Leeds and the surrounding areas.Founded in 2012 we aim to make exciting, fun, thought provoking pieces' of theatre that appeal to members of the Learning Disabled community. All our shows are devised and play to the strength of the cast involved in making the piece.During the last finical year we have benefited the community we serve in following ways-We returned to a programme of face to face delivery, resuming our popular ‘Big Drama Club’ on a Wednesday daytime. Over the period of the calendar year we successfully devised, rehearsed and performed two new pieces of theatre: ‘Sheets Across the Streets’ and ‘Nice to See you’, performing these at Stage@Leeds Theatre, Leeds Playhouse and 7 Arts venue’s.We were able to engage with over 300 audience members and streamed a live performance through our YouTube channel. We continued developing our website and media platforms to support our work and members of the learning disabled community, keeping people informed of our programme of workshops and performances. In the early months of 2022, we continued to be able to offer one to one support for customers who needed a safe place to chat online to help tackle feeling of isolation and help mental wellbeing, helping the transition to face to face sessions. In consultation with our board and service users we ran a very successful fund raising event; providing a fun Christmas market, with tombola and a preview of our upcoming Christmas show.

Consultation with stakeholders

The companies stake holders are the wider Learning Disabled Community and our partners who are the core day services providers for Leeds and Bradford. We have a meeting with our board members, parents and any other inserted party every 4 months. Members of our board are key workers for our partner organistaions and have many years experience in working with families and the Learning Disabled community. We have a traffic light system of feed back for our customers- with this simple yet effective system we are able to gauge mood of customers which allows us to further engage in conversations about what we are working on 'in moment'. We offer further group discussions to decide which creative route we take on all our projects involving all members of the group, support staff and customers.after our shows we engage audience members, family members and our partners to offer feed back so we can continue to develop and refine our practice. These are available in a filmed format-post show ( for members of the LD community who cant write), and written format and on a feed back questionnaire on our website.
