COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT
THE MARKET GARDEN (SEDGEFIELD) C.I.C.
Company Number: 12209906 (England and Wales)
Year Ending: 30 September 2021
During this period, we were able to greatly develop on the work we began in the previous financial year. We bought land back to be used for growth and purchased a lease for our building ‘The Hive’. The building was remodeled during November-December 2021. The purchasing of this land and leasing of our building allowed us to add greenhouses, sheds, and more gardening space for a more diverse set of crops. We installed trellis fencing between our land and the neighboring properties for privacy, which allowed us to grow more produce on the trellises themselves. We also received funding from Living to allow us to install paving stones within the garden. Non-essential shops reopened in March 2021, and with this we opened our shop to serve the community. This meant we were able to sell bedding plants, flowers for funerals and weddings, and herbs to serve the local restaurants. Throughout this period, we continued to help the vulnerable in our community. Many of our volunteers were people with disabilities or veterans, or on a palliative care path. We also provided raised beds for people with dementia to tend to as a form of therapeutic gardening.
