Company activities and impact

The company runs different ‘studios’ - projects that support feminist philanthropy, art, leadership, and activism (see more https://www.closerthanyouthink.co/) This year the studios focused on the following: Co-Leadership - a research report, website, and tool gallery that supports co-leaders in their practice. The project shares practical tips and lessons learned based on experiences of 25 different leaders. During the first month of the website launch, we had 4.8k visitors. The top visitors were from the US, UK, Canada, India, and Netherlands (see more at www.feministcoleadership.com)Garment Worker Solidarity - this is an ongoing project based on a podcast and digital campaign begun in 2020 to support garment workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. We continue to promote the project and collect donations that are redistributed to garment workers collectives around the world. So far we have distributed over £ 5k via donations (see more at https://rememberwhomadethem.com)In addition, we provided advising services to different feminist philanthropic institutions to strengthen their grantmaking and programmatic strategies and practices around the world. This includes: Setting up a pilot cohort initiative with artists and human rights defenders in Asia and the Pacific to shift narratives on issues of activism and feminism. Accompanying a community-led grantmaking initiative.Facilitating annual staff meetings and collective care initiatives to support reflection, wellbeing, connection, and care. Advising community-led funds on where they can mobilize more resources to support their mission.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our stakeholders are: Multigenerational practitioners, activists, organisations, groups and collectives working across Social Justice Movements around the world, particularly in the Arts and Cultural Production, Philanthropy, and Community Organizing. While we have not held formal consultations, we do our work based on principles of collaboration, participation, and diversity. For example, our co-leadership research involved 30+ leaders, practitioners, and artists from around the world including India, Pakistan, Peru, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Fiji, Malaysia, Cape Verde, Croatia, United States, United Kingdom, and more. Our work for the Equality Fund was to facilitate a community-based practice with other feminist and women’s funds from every continent to decide how to best use and share funds. Their inputs were used to design the grants portfolio and their feedback was collated into report to further inform future decisions.
