COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

PLAYFUL LIFE CIC

Company Number: 12844486 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 August 2022

Company activities and impact

This community interest company offers play therapy to vulnerable children and families in South Wales who are, or have been, in challenging circumstances. In its second year, the company has continued to provide play therapy to primary school children ad their families who were experiencing a variety of difficulties, including loss and bereavement. These sessions have benefitted the community by helping children learn to experience and express emotions, enabling them to create more secure attachments, reducing challenging behaviours presented due to distress, thus improving family relationships, resulting in happier households and communities. Playful life has supported school staff regarding challenges of pupils, and classroom dynamic. These actions have helped to improve mental health and wellbeing of individual professions and adults working with these children. Strategies were developed to overcome the challenges presented by these children, resulting in more effective classroom management, and better learning

Consultation with stakeholders

The focus of the activities in the second year has been the community around Port Talbot and Swansea, identified as an area of need, as well as Cyfarthfa Park Primary (CPP) in Merthyr Tydfil, another identified area of need in South Wales. There were no stakeholders in particular with whom to consult, although ongoing reviews of activities and support provided were conducted and acted upon. In the Swansea/Port Talbot area in particular, conversations were initiated with a community forest group regarding the possibility of establishing outdoor play therapy sessions. Two of the play therapists received further training and certification in outdoor play therapy. There has been an ongoing revision of activities carried out at CPP, and meetings have been held to plan a way forward. These include more sessions where needed, and the possibility to subcontract additional play therapists to provide additional assistance.
