COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT
POWERBASE COMMUNITY C.I.C.
Company Number: 12534246 (England and Wales)
Year Ending: 31 March 2022
Powerbase Community C.I.C. was founded in 2017. We started as a community groupworking to empower young people from a deprived background in London with the skills andtools to start businesses and give back to their community.Today, we are a registered social enterprise with a network of over thirty volunteers globally, two main initiatives (Naka Tech Academy and PowerQueens) which span across the UK andAfrica with hundreds of lives impacted. Our philosophy is centred around reaching themarginalised for inclusive integrated development for all. The mission is simple: to createsustainable solutions for global poverty through economic empowerment. We have a fluid approach by creating and funding social good initiatives to combat differentproblems that involve young people with a particular focus on education, employment andentrepreneurial opportunities.Naka Teach Academy: Our students are 13-24 year olds from disadvantaged soci-economicbackgrounds. They come from the UK, Malawi, Zambia, Nigeria, Uganda, Ghana andMorocco. We operate weekly online co-learning sessions via Zoom with professionalprogrammers who teach our tailored curriculum which covers cyber security, softwareengineering and digital marketing. We provide our students with all the equipment they need to learn which includes laptops, Wi-Fi routers, data bundles, learning materials and subscriptions to coding platforms. We alsowork with each student and provide pastoral care, CV support, career workshops, interviewtraining and job application support.PowerQueens: Focuses on empowering marginalised women in Africa by reducing thebarriers to education, employment and entrepreneurial opportunities. We work with grassrootspartners and ambassadors to create solutions and advocate against the barriers that stopwomen from achieving their potential and lifting themselves out of poverty. We sponsor 100 girls in the rural parts of Lusaka and Kabwe to be in education by providingsanitary pads as menstruation can become a barrier to education which according to UNICEFforces 1 in 10 girls in Africa to miss school or drop out completely.
Powerbase Community C.I.C’s stakeholders are professionals and entrepreneurs who arepassionate about effecting change within their local communities. The directors also have firsthand experience with some of the problems they work together to solve which continuouslystokes the drive to see change come to fruition.Feedback is regularly requested from students and parents by way of filling out questionnairesand creating a culture of ‘sharing testimonies’ of wins and requests for assistance. This hashelped us to build up a profile of student testimonials as well as identifying needs and what wecan do to meet them more effectively. We encourage those who teach and offer pastoral careto pick up further needs and ideas for the social enterprise when engaging with the students.
