Company activities and impact

‘You could see that the festival was completely about community and the ambience the festival brought was amazing, it brought together, community artists, poets, speakers and more. I loved seeing it as an additional festival enhancing the arts and cultural scene’ Kirran Shah: BBC Intercultured Festival offered a diverse range of cultural events in Bradford over 10 days in October 2021, consisting of workshops, exhibitions, and performances. The programme showcased new music, dance, spoken word, visual art, writing, cookery, and talks. Intercultured Festival has emerged stronger from the pandemic, having used this festival to demonstrate skills in digital and hybrid events. The festival was able to place a spotlight on the new communities in Bradford, including refugee and asylum-seeking communities. We were able to share stories of refugee journeys, enjoy local poetry, learn filmmaking, see incredible performances and to share food and cooking skills from around the world. We ran over 62 workshops or events and created 17 new artworks or experiences. Our combined live and online audience was 5526 and 376 people took part in workshops. We are deeply grateful to our partners, supporters and funders, particularly the national lottery through Arts Council England Lottery Project Grants and Bradford Council who have helped us to bring this amazing programme to our community. We’d also like to thank our generous local venue partners – Common Space, Deaf Centre, Delius and Kala Sangam and all those who have support in kind. Creative partners Counterpoint Arts and Common Wealth continue to provide invaluable support to our programming and sustainability. We collaborated with artists, performers, and speakers from Bradford, the wider Yorkshire region and beyond. We will continue to offer local artists a platform to develop and to grow their individual talents. We are proud to have provided freelance opportunities for 60 artists and producers. Additionally, eight volunteers signed up to support our festival programme. In 2021, Intercultured Festival made an effort to reduce its carbon footprint by reusing and recycling materials. We are committed to continuing our efforts towards sustainability and environmental responsibility. The directors would like once again to thank our audiences, participants, venue partners, supporters and funders for helping us to achieve our goals. Together we can look forward to amplifying more voices in the community in future.
