WESTWAY YOGA KOLEKTIV DANA (WYKD) C.I.C.
Company Number: 13480349 (England and Wales)

Westway Yoga Kolektiv Dana (WYKD) is a non-profit organisation of certified yoga teachers. Our aim is to provide free inclusive yoga and meditation classes to adults and children who might otherwise not have access to the practice. We currently run 12 classes per week at Bay 20, St Marks Road, W10 6JG and Love Supreme Projects, W10 5PS. Through providing this consisting program, participants can develop a regular practice thus improving both physical and mental health. Importantly, this also allows attendees to create and strengthen new connections and friendships. Classes are predominantly held at Bay 20 community centre which is run by North Kensington Hearts and Minds CIC. This organisation has been an incredibly supportive community partner to WYKD since day one. Deeply embedded within the community, Bay 20 offers constructive feedback to our organisation and introduces new students to our classes on a weekly basis. Love Supreme Projects is a privately owned studio that in partnership with us opens its doors to local community. Average attendance is 10-16 student with weekend classes serving 20+. There is a consistent increase in the number of regular and unique students with 1-2 new students in each class. On average regular students attend at least 2 classes per week. Yoga is known to benefit both physical and mental health. We believe that physical and mental well-being should be a birth right and tools to maintain this should be accessible to all. North Kensington is home to some of the economically challenged wards in the UK. Despite RBKC being the richest borough in London there are long-standingissues of high poverty and inequality in the North of the borough. These issues have been made worse by the recent impact from the Covid-19 pandemic. This community has also been severely affected for the aftermath of the Grenfell fire with many residents still suffering from trauma and mental health issues as a result. On top of this the community is now also dealing with the growing cost-of-living crisis.Through teaching yoga, meditation, and mindfulness we give our students the tools to do this for themselves. Our classes are designed to be inclusive and cater to all. West London like many parts of the world is now home to many yoga studios as it has become a ‘trend’. However, many of the studios, though high in the quality of the teachers are very expensive. We believe the community deserves access to quality teaching and that the classes are not reserved for those who can afford it. Everyone should have access to the benefits of the practice. Our diverse group teachers have been trained in the UK’s most reputable yoga schools.
The company’s stakeholders are residents of W10, W11 but also reaching beyond the North Kensington area, and local teachers living in the surrounding area. The directors of the company have lived in the area for several years and developed the business model based on their experience of talking to other residents. We run regular questionnaires /surveys via our social media channels and also through the centres we work with.We encourage one-to-one discussions with students to gain a clear understanding of the issues they are facing and how WYKD is helping to improve their sense of well-being. We have tea and coffee available after class to assist this.We also have an anonymous feedback box available at Bay 20.Examples of feedback received:"Being able to tap into a free local yoga service has helped bring some light back in a time of grief and darkness without worrying about finance. Thank you to Lauren and her team! You guys are angels."Fatima, Local Resident"I just want to again thank you and the other teachers for your time and instruction. You guys came to me at one of the lowest points of my life where I was struggling with a lot of things including dealing with Grenfell. You guys are a lifeline to a lot of people on the community and please believe all the work you guys are doing means absolutely everything. "Mark, Local ResidentWYKD has had a huge impact on my life and well-being. The classes have given me a new 'normal' post covid and helped me with the isolation of home and hybrid working. I’ve lost weight and no longer need anxiety medication. My sleeping issues are now minimal. I’m so much happier and really look forward to classesKarima, Local Resident
