1. Accounting policies
Basis of measurement and preparation
These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102 Turnover policy
Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, net of discounts. Turnover includes revenue earned from the rendering of services. Turnover is reduced for estimated customer rebates and other similar allowances. Tangible fixed assets depreciation policy
Tangible fixed assets are measured at cost less accumulated depreciation and any accumulated impairment losses. Prior year unapplied accumulated depreciation has also been included in the calculation. Depreciation is provided at rates calculated to write off the cost of the fixed assets, less their estimated residual value, over their expected useful lives on the basis of 5 year straight line.

African Activities CIC have visited 151 organisations face to face during this period, new to the company we have also visited some via zoom, a situation forced by covid. Highlights:- We have delivered CPD sessions at the Music and Drama Education Expo which went down incredibly well. Our free CPD resources online continue to be incredibly popular.- We delivered storytelling workshops for the Southbank Centre at Royal Festival Hall and continue to work for more and more events.- We were nominated for two awards this year the SEND resource of the year and the Francesca Hanley Inspiration Award.Lockdown Highlights:- We worked with Our Version Media to upskill our artists and enable them to deliver via zoom and teams.- We have delivered workshops and events online for free for the community during lockdown, one of these reached 4.7k people.- We have become an Arts Council England Artsmark Partner. Our partnerships with groups such as Southampton Education Partnership and with Our Version Media have been strengthened.
The vast majority of our work is with Schools who are our primary stakeholders. All of our schools and partners provide us with feedback after our events, enabling us to continuously challenge ourselves and improve. https://africanactivities.org.uk/customer-satisfaction-survey/ At events we hold directly all young people fill in feedback forms. As a member of the Southampton Cultural Education Partnership we are part of an in depth consultation process working with schools and with young people to ensure the partnership embeds the voice of children and young people. Our consultation with local Black and Asian groups in Southampton include GHASSO, Black History Month South, Arts Asia, TUVAA and OVM. To develop our work in this area we joined the RSA Evidence Champions Network in January, sadly this was halted by Covid.
Directors’ renumeration: Kwame Bakoji-Hume, £20879.00 salary.
Through our work we are able to support Earth Children African Activities Foundation LBG Reg No CG196190721 in Ghana.Year ending June 2020 we have been able to fund two rounds of thatching training via the traditional skills school in Buipe, giving 14 young people a sustainable income to reduce their likelihood of being at risk as economic migrants. We managed to plant 5000 Rosewood seedlings ready for planting out in 2021. The Rosewood from which the balafon instruments are made was declared by the UN ‘the ivory of the forest’.
