Company activities and impact

Firstly, all young people who took part in The Bike Project received free training in cycle maintenance, cycle provision and cycle safety. All of our beneficiaries were provided 40+ hours of experience through being in an active workshop. This has essentially enabled our beneficiaries to have an insight of YourBikeProject. Furthermore, our project enabled young people to partake for free and express healthy eating and well-being through our pedal power smoothie machine which attracted the local community to create and enjoy a pedal power smoothie for free. Normally, as we hold pop-up workshops within Camden local parks and green spaces to gain interest from the local community but covid has made this more difficult thus we have moved to an online platform to express our works and interests. The 45 young people received and earned a bicycle, safety equipment and accessories to support their lives to ensure being safe on the busy roads of London. From the 45 young people, we have enabled 5 of them to find work in their chosen careers. For example, we have prepared 5 young people to join Uber eats, Deliveroo, Just Eat and Woodley a carpentry company. This has provided those young people into full-time work and into flexible work also with them earning a legal income within the borough. As an organisation we are focused on exit strategy for young people from a life of crime and ensuring those not in training or other forms of employment had a pathway enabling them for a chosen career path. Secondly, Families and young people who reside in area experience inequality and lack of opportunity. The Bike Project was able to provide young people into training learning craftmanship and artistry skills through cycle maintenance. Deprived members of the community were given an opportunity to earn a bike for free. We created partnership with another local grass root organisation Camden United & Global Generation. This created synergy with our groups of beneficiaries as we want to set examples of teamwork and partnership within the area. We can say with delight we have created a community buzz and feeling, many communities in the area are excited of our work and our unique services we provide as we have made cycling a cost-free leisure in the area. Finally, with the lack of services and funding into traditional means of community, namely community centres, there has been a rise in isolation and poverty, as well as absence of a “sense of community”. The project has been able to bring people from all walks of life into the project which has created a new form of identity in the area. Young people in the local area lack from confidence, self-esteem, and trust. Through the project we able to strengthen these social issues through our project.

Consultation with stakeholders

Young People from different parts Camden were Main Stockholders. They were offered provision lessons on cycle safety to all beneficiaries on how to be safe while cycling within congested and busy road of central London. Beneficiaries were able to exercise cycling in the local community for free, get to school/college, work more efficiently. Finally, the project enabled young people to take part in training and apprenticeship schemes, and some young people were able to take up delivery jobs in the local area enabling them to earn a legal form of income.Stake holders were consulted by having video shooting and asking them how they feel.
