COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

EXPLORING SENSES COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY

Company Number: 07794560 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 1 March 2021

Company activities and impact

Exploring Senses (ES) works in partnership with charities, non profit organisations, community groups, local government, schools, businesses and art organisations providing activities, events, mentoring and consultation. ES continued their Children in Need project at BACA school, whilst there was some disruption due to Covid 19, ES continued to provide much needed activities, support and a sense of nomality to children of keyworkers and children with additional needs. Our Awards for all sessions for children aged 8-12 years moved onto zoom during lockdown, we quickly organised home kits of equipment and materials and dropped them off to the young peoples houses, this gave the young people the opportunity to continue their making sessions and to talk freely with friends who they were not able to see, the feedback from the sessions was fantastic and children told us its the only thing they looked forward to for the week. During this time we were able to support a regular participant whose only carer had a stroke, we put on extra sessions to ensure he was supported. ES secured funding from the National Lottery for a digital aged zoom project for older people who have experienced loneliness and were scared to leave their houses throughout Covid 19, giving them access to art therapy and a zoom room for discussions. this worked extremey well and the feedback was 100% positive, giving the participants a weekly chat and check in, lifted their spirits, while allowing them to rediscover their artistic abilities and create new hobbies and friendships. 100% said that their mental health and wellbeing improved from these sessions. ES also worked with Safety Net providing workshops for young carers who have struggled during Covid 19, giving them a well deserved break and a chance to have fun with our art activities. The feedback fro this was very good, with high levels of engagement from young people who would not normally participate in activities.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company stakeholders are local communities, charities, arts organisations, local government, schoold and businesses. ES are currentky working in partnership with Emmaus Brighton and Hove, Brighton Youth Centre, Children in Need, National Lottery, Awards for All, BACA school, our participants and parents and carers. We consult with our partners regulary for feedback on our services and to ensure that we meet the needs of our communities. This can either be verbally or through feeback forms. We find this feedback extremely useful in shaping our current and future sessions/projects. An example is during Covid 19 speaking with our partners to ensure that we could adapt our activities whilst supporting the participants and ensuring that we all stay safe.
