Tangible fixed assets are initially measured at cost and subsequently measured at cost or valuation, net of depreciation and any impairment losses. |
The gain or loss arising on disposal of an asset is determined at the difference between the sale proceeds and the carrying value of the asset, and is credited or charged to the profit or loss. |
Investment property |
Investment property is included at fair value. Gains are recognised in the income statement. Deferred taxation is provided on these gains at the rate expected to apply when the property is sold. |
In accordance with the FRS 102 section 1A, fair value gains and losses are accounted for under the Fair Value Accounting Rules and are taken to the income statement. No depreciation is provided in respect of investment properties. |
Financial instruments |
Basic financial instruments are measured at amortised cost less impairment. |
Taxation |
Taxation for the year comprises current and deferred tax. Tax is recognised in the Income Statement, except to the extent that it relates to items recognised in other comprehensive income or directly in equity. |
Current or deferred taxation assets and liabilities are not discounted. |

Deferred tax is measured using tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the year end and that are expected to apply to the reversal of the timing difference. |
Unrelieved tax losses and other deferred tax assets are recognised only to the extent that it is probable that they will be recovered against the reversal of deferred tax liabilities or other future taxable profits. |
