To obtain the most robust research evidence, the Motivez team holds quarterly reviews on internal and external trends, utilising findings from organisations such as Youth Futures Foundation, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, and the Institute for Employment Studies. These reports conclude that:- One of the most effective methods of helping young people to gain employment is “effective engagement with, and prompt attachment to, employment support programmes”. - An essential method to counteract youth unemployment is provision of “services that support young people as they move into the labour market” that are “coordinated at a local level.”- Increased confidence towards the application process increases job application activity, supporting “progression towards EET destinations”- Increased confidence was a major contributor to a 13 percentage point move away from NEET activityAs a direct result of the skills and confidence gained from our programmes, beneficiaries have secured full-time employment or internships. This testifies to the efficacy of our programmes, shown by these case studies:Case Study 1: Adedoyin secured a place to study Engineering at Warwick University and received 7 internship offers from Bloomberg, Deutsche Bank, Macquarie, National Grid, Amazon, Royal Bank of Canada and GSK. These roles were across Global Data, Tech & Innovation, Capital Markets, Energy and Pharmaceuticals She commends the ‘Summers Not Cancelled’ and ‘Application Season’ programmes for contributing to this success.Case Study 2: Gabriel lacked confidence and knowledge surrounding assessment centres. He tackled this through taking part in our programmes and as a result, he successfully secured a graduate role at Unilever.Case Study 3: Ezra utilised the teachings from our “Art of Leverage” workshop to recognise unconventional opportunities. As a result, he successfully secured an internship at JP Morgan.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s key stakeholders are young people aged 14 – 25, trust and foundations, employers, facilitators and mentors for Motivez. The directors of the company have lived experience of deprivation and overcoming multiple socio-economic barriers to secure employment from global corporations such as Google, Rolls-Royce, Blackrock, JP Morgan and Balfour Beatty who are all clients and potential partners. This has enabled the development of the business model and programmes based on their experience of talking to the local communities in Southwark and Lambeth and employers and the Youth Advisory Panel (YAP) to understand their needs. We ask everyone on our programmes to fill in a short questionnaire about their prospects, academical level, confidence with respect to STEM-related skills and securing employment at the beginning, middle and end. This has helped us to build up a profile of our service users needs and what we can do to serve them more effectively. Our research has enabled us to identify that Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups are underrepresented within STEM (i.e. less than 1% Black people in motorsport). We encourage those at the end of session to provide testimonials and suggestions of activities which they would like to see on programmes.
