1. Accounting policies
Basis of measurement and preparation
These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102 Turnover policy
Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, excluding discounts, rebates, value added tax and other sales taxes. Other accounting policies
TaxationTaxation for the year comprises current and deferred tax. Tax is recognised in the Income Statement, except to the extent that it relates to items recognised in other comprehensive income or directly in equity.Current or deferred taxation assets and liabilities are not discounted.Current tax is recognised at the amount of tax payable using the tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the balance sheet date.Deferred taxDeferred tax is recognised in respect of all timing differences that have originated but not reversed at the balance sheet date.Timing differences arise from the inclusion of income and expenses in tax assessments in periods different from those in which they are recognised in financial statements. The Company exists to promote, support and represent tourism businesses in the Outer Hebrides.During 2019:The company continued to support OH businesses to develop digital access for customers.Working with its partners on the Tourism Leadership group the company completed several high quality marketing campaigns for the islands including SeeUistSoon and the Outdoor Hebrides campaign. A new campaign emphasising the Gaelic language and heritage of the islands was started and a marketing Co-ordinator started work during the year.The Company maintained the leaflet series and welcome points. The Company continues to provide promotional and practical development work for the Hebridean Way, creating opportunities for new and existing tourism businesses.The Company also ensures industry has a voice representing the industry both at local and at national level in policy and funding decisions. To provide substance to our representations and information for our members we keep updated information on size and occupancy of industry.
The primary stakeholders in the Company are the tourism businesses in the Outer Hebrides. There is a regular email newsletter providing information to over 1000 businesses and feedback is used to inform and guide Company and tourism leadership group policy.The Company leads the Tourism Leadership Group, working closely with the other stakeholders: local authority Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and enterprise body HIE, along with VisitScotland.
