Report of the Trustees |
for the year ended 31 March 2019 |
The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their |
report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2019. The trustees have |
adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice |
applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard |
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2015). |
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES |
Objectives and aims |
The objectives are to relieve the charitable needs of people who are suffering from, have suffered from or |
who have been affected by addiction through the performing arts, especially dance. |
The trustees confirm that they have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission's general |
guidance on public benefit when reviewing the Charity's aims and objectives. |
ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE |
Charitable activities |
Throughout 2018-19, our fifth year as a Charity, we continued to pursue our core purpose "To support those |
in recovery from addiction, to transform their lives and to share the recovery journey through dance, |
performance and creativity." |
This was a fantastically busy year for FADT with 12 performances, 175 workshops, 2 presentations, 2 TED |
Talks and a Royal Visit. |
We reached over 829k through media and online channels, 74k performance audience, and worked with 138 |
people in recovery, on a regular basis in Cheshire, Merseyside and Greater Manchester. |
Across the UK, FADT developed and strengthened partnerships with Storyhouse Chester, Cheshire Dance, |
Geese Theatre, Birmingham Royal Ballet, NEW (North East Wales) Dance at HMP Berwyn, and Science |
Gallery London. |
We started to address the issue of measuring the impact of our participation projects, to track data by |
designing a new and easily accessible app. The hard evidence gathered sits alongside personal testimonies |
of participants who talk about the real, practical change that FADT brings to their lives. |
These achievements, and many others you can read about in the report, have taken place despite a difficult |
financial environment and we are greatly to our funders, donors and supporters, without whom none of this |
work would be possible. |
Looking forward we face a significant period of development, as current demand for our work outstrips our |
capacity to deliver. We will need to explore creative and operational models that suit and can sustain, the |
particular nature of FADT. |
Artistically we look forward to a first ever co-production with Storyhouse of a new full length performance. |
This year we also welcomed two new trustees, Clare Owens and Dawn Greaves. They bring needed |
expertise in the field of education and legal work, which will be valued. |
Finally on behalf of FADT, I would like to thank our retiring Chair, Mike Cunningham. His leadership and |
guidance was fundamental in establishing FADT as a Charity and his valued impact has brought the |
organisation into the strong position it is today. I would also like to thank my fellow trustees for their |
commitment and our Executive and Artistic Directors for their dedication, passion and hard work, that is |
FADT. |
FINANCIAL REVIEW |
Reserves policy |
During 2018/19 Fallen Angels Dance Theatre reviewed its reserve policy. We are aiming to hold at least |
three months of operating expenditure in unrestricted reserves. Total unrestricted reserves as at 31 March |
2019 were £18,648 which is around three months unrestricted operating expenditure. The trustees will review |
the reserve policy on an annual basis. |
Fallen Angels Dance Theatre North West |
Report of the Trustees |
for the year ended 31 March 2019 |
FINANCIAL REVIEW |
The trustees recognise that expenditure in the delivery of workshops and events has outstripped income |
received within the year, which represents a phasing issue with regard to income received (last year) and |
costs expended (this year). The trustees will continue to monitor and manage cash flow to ensure the liquidity |
and sustainability of the charity continues to be maintained. |
